Anyway, hi. Here is a little review:
The 1920s was a time for colour, change and post-war celebrations. The Roaring Twenties also marked a BOOM for arts, fashion and media. Read on to learn more about a world where dance fever and celebration filled the air!
You, as a teenager (or preteen) living in this day and age, would have lead a very different life in the 20s. Your life, I take it, revolves around making it at school. Guess what? Most teens in the 1920s didn’t attend high school! They dropped out to get a good earning job! The older teens (about 16 -19) grew reckless in attempts to gain freedom and fun. Older girls of this age are referred to as flappers. They were rebellious, risk taking and shocking girls. Hair was cut short and hemlines rose throughout the era. It was a fashionable lifestyle for young, awkward women. They drank; they smoked and tried to provoke their elders in any way possible. All teenagers of the 20s, male or female, younger or older, had a love of dance and music! The time you spent away from work would be spent enjoying the latest music with your friends!
It wasn’t just teenagers enjoying the arts at that time. Everyone was! Jazz music and, the iconic 20s dance, The Charleston, quickly became world-wide crazes. Dance marathons would be held weekly and attracted large crowds of all ages. The celebratory mood of the twenties was obvious in its music and dance.
Fashion in the twenties made a statement. Women’s clothing explored freedom by aiming for a boyish and revealing appearance. It was also an explosion of colour and accessories as women would sport bright, patterned fabrics and an abundance of hats, tights, bags and beaded necklaces. Men’s wear was looked to be a simpler version of formal attire from times prior. Although, men too experimented with shortening things by wearing knickerbockers. Other men’s fashion trends in the 20s include “Oxford Bag” (very wide, baggy pants) and hats.
This (being a review) has to have some kind of end evaluation. Looking at what I’ve learnt, the twenties seemed like quite a lot of fun. However, for us teens, there wasn’t much of a chance to just be young and carefree. We had to earn our keep as well as fussing about others’ opinions of us. To live back in the nineteen twenties would have its fun times and its hard times, just like life today. If I were given the chance to experience what the twenties was like, I think I would take it up but only for a short while. After enough time to find out what it was really like and how it was different (for myself), I can definitely say that I would want to come back to today’s advanced world.
